Women's Rights

Women’s Rights are the foundation of Human Rights. Cultures that repress women are almost uniformly impoverished, non-democratic and subject to disease, famine and war. The most effective way to repress women is to withhold education.

The UN estimates that by 2015, over 215 million girls, worldwide, will be illiterate. As young girls are marginalized or sold as slaves and prostitutes, the avenue to peace is obliterated for it is women who prize education and peace. It is they who when empowered, inculcate those goals in their own children and who, when repressed, simply bear children and die young.

As adults, women who escape the sex trade often wind up in domestic service in foreign counties where they are overworked underpaid and often physically and sexually abused as well. In Saudi Arabia for example, women domestic workers must get their employers permission to leave the country. Without it, they are forced to remain where they are.
