There are 6 billion people in the world. Accoridng to Freedom House.org,  5 billion of those live in countries where Press Freedom is regulated or severely regulated. This marks the sixth year in a row that Press Freedoms have declined,

So far, in 2009, 19 journalists have been killed. Press Freedom, like the taking of Political Prisoners, is a corrosive action that while it doesn’t include large numbers has a disproportionately large impact. Opressive governments fear open press more than any other single factor. When the press is muzzled, the forces for change and honesty loses their most formidable platform.
