BURMA
Burma is a military dictatorship that strictly regulates immigration and visitation. NLD leader and Nobel Peace Prize recipient Aung San Suu Kyi has been held under house arrest for over a decade since winning a national election which the army refused to recognize. There is great international support for her political party.
CHINA
Because the courts in China are extensions of government policy, it’s easy for the state to trump charges against anyone who threatens the Communist party or is perceived to be a threat. Those people are charged with false crimes and then sentenced to lengthy terms in jail, thereby stifling dissent and opposition which are fundamental to any democratic society.
LIBYA
According to Human Rights Watch, Libya is a transit and destination country for men and women from sub-Saharan Africa and Asia trafficked for the purposes of forced labor and commercial sexual exploitation. Libya also holds a significant number of political prisoners with trial.
TUNISIA
Tunisia has had one party rule for almost three decades. The political activists and opposition parties suffer from illegal jailing.
