About

Etymology - the word "corruption" comes from the Latin verb "corruptus" (to break); it literally means broken object.

Corruption is the foundation of poverty and repression. When entire countries and economies function on bribes, when doctors only work when they receive “gifts,” when cops and judges follow the money not the truth, the losses in human terms are staggering. The Power of Peace intends to make corruption visible and costly to the governments and politician who fail to attack it.

GOAL: To present 10,000 flashlights to the leaders of  ten selected countries whose high and unacceptable levels of corruption continue to keep millions of people locked in poverty and where almost nothing gets done without money passing hands under the table.

ACTION: 

1. Buy POP Flashlights - $5 buys one flashlight, $50 buys 10 flashlights, $100 buys 20 flashlights, $500 buys 100 flashlights. Help us get to our goal of 10,000 so we can shine a light on corruption around the world

2. Donate and help us reach our goal to buy flashlights so we can shine a light on corruption around the world. Just $5 buys us one flashlight. Take action now!

3. Sign up to deliver the flashlights to one of the 10 countries. Be the person who delivers 1000s of flashlights to the UN Ambassador of a specific country. We need 10 volunteers. Email us at flashlights at the powerofpeace.com

A Personal Tribute to Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela: Happy 92nd Birthday

I was not yet born when Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela was sentenced to life imprisonment. I did not hear his name during my early childhood growing up under the apartheid regime. I was not sure why he was imprisoned in that tiny cell on Robben Island. And I did not know then, that one day, he would unequivocally be my hero. While I have not had the honor of meeting Nelson Mandela, he has been a powerful and real part of my life journey over the past 20 years. I am profoundly humbled by his capacity to forgive and deeply motivated by his spirit and strength.

MY HOPES AND DREAMS FOR THE NEW DECADE:

I dream of a world where children everywhere will put their heads on their pillow at night and not worry about food, shelter or abuse. I hope President Obama finds his footing, plants his feet on the ground and earns his Nobel Peace prize. I dream of forgiveness and reconciliation between Jews and Arabs, Israelis and Palestinians. I hope the day comes when we recognize that cultures that repress women are almost uniformly impoverished and subject to disease, famine and war.
