In certain villages of southern Nepal (Janakpur) it has been tradition for women to paint lively designs on walls of their homes. The designs vary depending upon the occasion.  These same designs are copied onto these beautiful fold up mirrors using vibrant colors. Images include elephants, peacocks, symbols of prosperity and good fortune, parrots, bamboo, turtles, and fish - all symbols of happy union and fertility. Designs may vary from website photo.

Renowned for their knowledge of "Mithila" painting this small group of women in Southern Nepal create these beautiful mirrors. This provides these women with a sustainable in income in an area that is plagued by corruption; a serious lack of adequate electricity and water; extortion; serious competition from other competitors; swinging market demand based on world economic trends; health issues caused by poverty, pollution; and more.
